Having good concentration and focus skills are something that many children struggle with. This is a skill that doesn’t come naturally to all children. If you’re looking for some simple tips to help your child focus better then you’ve come to the right place.
What Block Child to Focus Better
There are many factors that trigger children to distract their attention. You cannot compare yourself to your children when it comes to the ability to focus on certain things. My mom always say that raising children in the modern days is different and more complicated. One of her reasons is the low ability of the child to focus on something.
Gadgets are like swords with double edges. Who doesn’t need gadgets living in the modern world? Human being from the young ages to the old ones will use them either frequently or less. Unfortunately, the screen will make eyes tired easily. I don’t want to get bothered to the effects of radiation, you can feel it. Thus, once children change their activities from the screen, they will easily feel exhausted and hard to concentrate. The addiction on using gadgets will definitely give more temptation not to focus on something.
Moving Space and Time
Children who live in the city will have more limited areas to move around. Meanwhile, it often happens that kid with over energy need to spend more energy to get a child to focus better on what they are doing. Thus, they will need more space and time to do more movements.
Some children has lower tolerance toward sugar or/and gluten. It happened to my son when he was still young. We can consider it as allergy. Once he consumed certain food, it will be difficult for him to concentrate.
Random Daily Activities
Random daily activities sound good because it gives freedom to children. However, it will give an impact that children will not know what they are supposed to do as what parents expect. Thus, once they are doing something, it is likely that parents will interrupt them. They won’t be able to focus in what they are doing.
Tips to Help your Child to Focus Better
Today I’m going to share a few simple tips that you can use to help your child focus better.
Get the Wiggles Out
Start each day with some physical activity that helps your child exert some physical energy. We all know that physical activity can increase our happiness, and using this method of getting the wiggles out at the start of the day will actually help your child focus better during school sessions.
When your child needs to focus on something, whether it’s school work or a chore, be sure you reduce any possible distractions. This means turn off televisions or any screens that may be apt to deter your child’s focus from their task at hand.
Learn your Child
Every parent starts to learn when their child is done for the day. Consider having any tasks or school work requirements be completed before your child starts to lose their ability to focus. If your child works better at the start of the day, then have them do their major projects then when the focus is fresh.
Often times a child has difficulties with focus because their brain is simply on overdrive. To avoid burnout with your child and to encourage more focus time, provide your child with adequate breaks in between work so that they start each task with a fresh mind.
Play Thinking Games
Crossword puzzles and word searches are a great way to help your child strengthen their focus skills. Memory is a card game that can help them with concentration skills that will also help your child focus better. Consider including thinking games in your child’s day to day life.
Provide a Healthy Diet
We all know what we consume for food and drink can have a direct impact on our ability to focus on tasks throughout the day. This holds true for children too. Try to provide your child with healthy snack options such as citrus fruits to help boost focus during their school day.
Develop a Routine
When a child has a daily routine that rarely changes they’re better able to focus because they can anticipate what is going to be next on their agenda. If you can develop a regular routine for your child, you’ll find that their ability to focus increases in time.
Just like breaks throughout the day, some children need naps to gain more focus. While children usually stop taking naps after age 3, you may consider allowing a power nap during the day for your child who has difficulties with focus.
Each of these tips will surely help increase focus in your children as well as encourage healthy concentration skills as your child gets older. Everyone needs to learn simple ways to focus because we all have our moments where concentrating is difficult. Use these simple tips to help your child focus better today and watch as your child grows substantially in their ability to focus.
