Kids have grown up and our homeschooling style changes over the time going. It automatically gives effect to our homeschool schedule. Homeschooling is always busy. Year after year, we have never been less busy. Our past years were busy as well. This year, we have elementary, middle and high school children to homeschool. There are 3 boys, and it has made us busy. Let's take a look at our homeschool schedule

Kids have grown up and our homeschooling style changes over the time going. It automatically gives effect to our homeschool schedule.

Busy Homeschool Schedule

Homeschooling is really different from going to school in many different ways. Even when we do a traditional homeschool method for some of level. The most significant difference is the way we use the time. Going to school has a clear time limit of learning, but we do it differently. Our learning time starts from early in the morning when we open our eyes

Our learning time starts from early in the morning when we open our eyes to late at night when we go to sleep. Therefore, when the Christian school has the opening and closing prayers, we have morning and going to bed prayers. The learning time is unlimited.

Morning Time

Our morning time is started at 4:15AM, when kids wake up to attend the morning mass in the church. This year, all of them join the Altar Boy. The requirement is quite challenging. They need to attend the morning masses for 25 times. They will also need to do a morning altar service for 75 times before they are inaugurated officially.

The mass starts at 05:30AM. They ride bikes with daddy to church almost every day, other than Sunday. They go home at 06:40AM on average. In Sundays, they go to church at 07:00AM to have altar boy class or such kind of training.

After having breakfast, the boys go to sleep for an hour and a half. You might be confused why they sleep when other students go to school.

  1. Well, kids have very crowded physical activities in the afternoon, so they need to save their energy.
  2. Another reason is they will concentrate better in academic things if they have enough sleep hours.
  3. They are in a growing period, so sleeping will make them good.

Schooling Time

We start schooling at 08:30AM on average. After enough sleeping, kids are more refresh and they can do works much faster. As I told you before, this year we have 3 stages of Elementary, Middle and High school. They have different patterns of time schedule in learning.

High School Learning Time

There are 7 compulsory subjects that high schoolers need to do. You can see in our curriculum 2017-2018. I don't do detail planning for my high schooler. I do have yearly planning that I share with my son. However, he makes his own strategy how to cover the academic targets.

We discuss together the learning frequency of each subject and he makes his own schedule. Here is schedule in a week:

Major Subjects

Mathematics – 5 times

Physics – 4 times

Biology – 3 times

Chemistry – 3 times

Minor Subjects

Bahasa – 2 times

Civics – 1 time

English – 3 times

World History – 3 times

Religion – 1 time

Middle School Learning Time

My Middle schooler has to join the final national standardized exam this year. We have a timetable. We make it together.

Major Subjects

Mathematics – 5 times

Science – 5 times

Social Studies – 2 times

Civics – 2 times

Bahasa – 2 times

Minor Subjects

Reading – 3 times

Spelling – 3 times

Grammar – 2 times

World History – 3 times

Religion – 1 time

Elementary School Learning Time

My fifth grader still needs help with the time management a lot. He learns more academical subjects daily than his brothers. I think it is normal because he is less specialized. We adopt several homeschool methods with him. I think he is more classical than his brothers at the moment. He has timetable. I still make it for him.

That looks a lot, but he does it pretty fast.

Looking their items to study daily, you must think that all of the children learn very fast. No, they don't. From 08:30AM, they have several break times. They also DON'T finish exactly at 02:00PM to go out for their afternoon interest time. Any subjects they don't finish, they need to finish either in the evening or weekends. That is to train their responsibility and self-discipline.

Interest and Service

This is the time kids build their interest and work outside home. On average, they start at 3:00PM daily, except for Sunday. Not everyone is the same. Here is what we have this year, 2017-2018:

Evening Free, Social, and/or Family Time

After the interest activities, kids have some options to do to spend their evening:

  • If they have not finished their school work, they will need to do it
  • They might go to the church or social events
  • We might have some family time

Closing the Day

Homeschool schedule runs from early in the morning through the evening before bed. We learn academic, interest, and social things. These routines still keep us homeschool until now. We are very certain that we cannot afford doing this when we have to go to the public or the private school. It won't take longer time. As soon as they go to the college, this busy homeschool days will be a sweet memory of our family life.
