Family camping should be a fun activity for the whole family as it is the time to tighten the family bond. Unfortunately, I don’t like camping, although we often go camping. Can you believe it? I often post in my social media wall about our camping. It doesn’t mean that I love camping. Camping was just a force activities when I was a young.
I think there are many parents that don’t like camping as I do. I bet some of you might have the same ideas like mine.
Why I Don’t Like Camping
Camping is exhausting
For honest, camping is an exhausting activity start from the preparation, activities, cleaning, and tidy up. Don’t say about the family camping. Going to camping alone in the school time was a torture for me. Going with 3 children in a camping is like a hell for me.
- They can help me preparing, but I still have to control over everything at the moment.
- In the location, I still have to handle their food and clothes. I think they should be ready to handle their own, but we will need more space to load their stuff individually than when we put them all together.
- There are usually several on-site physical activities, like tracking and games that make me more tired.
Camping is not comfortable
Camping doesn’t give me a more comfortable day after the busy days at home. Why should we sleep in the tent when a hotel is provided around the location? The funny thing was when I reserved a space in the public camping ground, the receptionist just offered a hotel. She laughed why we wanted to sleep in a tent when a hotel is available.
I have to leave my work
I use to work in the weekend when kids don’t have schooling time. Camping is always in the weekend as well. It means that I have to postpone my work into the weekdays while I have to accompany kids learning. It just makes my regular schedule chaos.
Camping means giving other clutter
Camping doesn’t stop when we go home, but we still have to clean up and return them in the right place. Even the post camping activities are more torturing than the camping itself. It just gives me more clutter to finish after.
Camping is risky
Camping is not always safe and even it is never safe here. We need to be really careful with the nature and the creatures.
- We will meet a lot of insects and creepy animals. We found a couple of poisonous scorpions during the trekking. The last time we met a lot of frogs and grasshopper that we don’t usually find in daily life. They really shocked us.
- We usually camp in the mountain that has some narrow and slimy paths.
Going to camping will just endanger ourselves, I think.
Why We Still Go to Camping
Camping is quite irritating for me personally, but I still cannot refuse when my husband and children want to go for camping. It is not because I am worried about it, but I really decide to join because of my self-awareness.
For The Sake of The Children
The main reason for me to participate in the family camping is for the sake of the children and my husband. The love the adventure and I don’t think I would be strong enough to participate in the future. Children grow very fast. The moment we have right now might not be possible in the future when they are growing up. They will live with someone else and we don’t know where they are going to be.
To make them happy right now has made me happier. All painful feeling and condition are replaced by their happiness.
Get Closer to Nature
It is a fact that human being is a part of nature. Unfortunately, I live in the city so that I rarely find soil, plant, and other natural features. There are more buildings and man-made things everywhere. Going to camping makes me feel how small I am compared to the wonderful nature I meet and feel. They live and exist without a lot of human’s interfere. This kind of feeling makes me more grateful and it recharges my enthusiasm.
Miss The Fresh Air to Breath
Living in the city makes the fresh air is very rare for me. Therefore, getting the fresh air from the mountain or beach is a great experience for me. Although I feel exhausted in the end, the sensation of the fresh air is really great. It is completely different when we sleep in hotels. Hotels always need air conditioner since the circulation is usually not good to feel the fresh air.
Camping is the time to build communication with children and husband. In our minimum condition without the abundant electricity and electronic access, I really appreciate how our communication is built. At the same time, we need also to communicate without verbal language in building tent, cooking, and any other occasions in camping activities. I just feel it is fun.
Train The Children
Kids are really pulling my hair a lot during the camping, I will let you know. However, it is a great time to train them to survive in the minimum condition. They will start thinking using some alternative sources to make, to build, or to do something with a few available tools and materials. I enjoy a lot to see how creative my children are in the camping activities.
