It has been a while that the Features of Our Homeschooling Planner series are being “interrupted”. If you haven't visited the previous features, you might visit them by clicking these links: Features of Our Homeschooling Planner {Part 1} – About The Time Features of Our Homeschooling Planner {Part 2} – About The Resource Management Features of Our Homeschooling Planner {Part 3} – How to Manage the Resources to the Time Here is our last post for this seri. Part 4 will talk about How to Manage the Resources to the Teaching and Learning Process. In doing the whole planning, using part one to part three forms or planners will be enough if you use the traditional homeschooling method that use text books and reference or if you use the living books for Charlotte Mason methods. It is not something fixed. For us, as an eclectic homeschooling family who has tendency to classical mesthods, we use text books for certain subjects like Maths and Science. Of course in the middle of the text book we have activities that might look like unit studies. We combine things that work for us. Therefore, we have additional forms to meet our need in combining resources and system. To accommodate that need, we have planning forms available in our homeschooling planner.
Unit Study Planner
There are some components in our unit study planner. Here are things that are suggested to fill in consecutively
- Name of the Unit Study
- Learner(s) identity which include name, grade, year/semester, and quarter.
- Instead of filling in the duration and number of lessons, you might choose filling in the table first, started from the integrated subject/course Scope and Outcomes. There are 3 columns, each of which represents one subject/course integrated. Fill in the headers (yellow cells) with the name of the subjects or courses
- Underneath the names of subjects/courses, fill in the goals/outcomes/scopes you want to cover in each of the integrated subjects/courses. You can take this from the common core standard or any curriculum that you have and you want your children to cover.
- Next, you might fill in the teaching/learning points in the teaching/learning sequence column altogether with the activities and resources/materials. Give horizontal lines each time you finish with one point. A couple of pages are provided to continue pages.
- When you have finished, you might check whether you have covered all of the goals/outcomes/scopes stated previously under each integrated subject. Please calculate the estimation of time needed to cover all of those activities.
- Write the duration of the unit under the name field and the number of lessons next to the duration field.
- Now you might copy short notes of those teaching and learning sequence /activities in the yearly subject plan. Check Features of Our Homeschooling Planner {Part 3}

- Skip the timing of the lapbooking activities and just go to the table.
- Pick 10 or more things you wish the learners to work on. Write them on the points to explore column.
- Find the resources used for each of the point.
- Write the mini books types suitable with the points. You might get the links of mini book pictures in any of the posts above.
- Mention the materials needed for each mini book. They can be related with the colors and paper types of the mini books. Write them under the materials column.
- When you have finished with the column, you might estimate or calculate the number of lessons needed to finish each of the mini book. Write it the duration field underneath the Unit/Topic Field. Write the date you will start and should finish on the next field.

Well, the procedure of using the notebooking unit plan is similar with the lapbooking unit plan.
- The first thing you need to fill in are the top field of the form: Unit /topic name, grade level(s) of the learners and the academic year.
- Skip the timing of the notebooking activities and just go to the table.
- Pick 10 or more things you wish the learners to work on. Write them on the points to explore column.
- Find the resources used for each of the point.
- Write or draw the notebooking page template types suitable with the points.
- Mention the materials needed for each page. They can be related with the colors and paper types of the pages. Write them under the materials column
- When you have finished with the column, you might estimate or calculate the number of lessons needed to finish each of the page. Write it the duration field underneath the Unit/Topic Field. Write the date you will start and should finish on the next field.
