We are very happy to find Revolutionary Piano Method. It is a real fabulous homeschool piano teaching method that my second son is using at the moment to meet his desire to learn piano at home in his age.
Watching several dramas on television, I found that some public schools have compulsory piano lessons for students. Thus, I have been looking for a simple but great homeschool piano teaching method for children to learn piano at home at the basic level. When they show good interest in playing the piano, I am thinking to send them to a private piano teacher.
It is a long tradition that the piano is a must-learn musical instrument before people learn other instruments. I don’t have any research about this statement, but many people around us learn piano as their first instrument before they learn other instruments. In fact, people who can play different musical instruments professionally usually can play the piano.
Our Music Backgrounds
For this reason, I learned the piano in my 30s. All of my children also play the piano to start their musical experience at their very young age. In our music learning journey, my older son, my youngest son, and I took several years of piano Royal exams for both practice and theory. However, my second son left piano lessons out and gave up a month after learning when he was still 9 years old.
My second son loves playing the drum. We had to sell the drum set when we did our house renovation. Now, he is willing to learn to play the piano from the beginning. Thus, I was looking for a homeschool piano teaching method that allows him to learn this instrument more independently and fast with the piano we have at home.
We are very happy to find Revolutionary Piano Method. It is a real fabulous homeschool piano teaching method that my second son is using at the moment to meet his desire to learn piano at home in his age.
I was given a free copy of the Revolutionary Piano Method. I was paid for my time. Compensated for my time does not mean paid off. ALL opinions are my own and I will always tell you my honest opinion. Your experience and opinion may vary.

Homeschool Piano Teaching Method
After using this piano teaching method for a while, we find that Revolutionary Piano Method is a unique and amazing homeschool piano teaching method
- The instructional design method is great to let students learning at their own pace. Each concept is introduced one by one, so they are not overwhelming.
- Leslie Young is very smart that she introduces the notes visually on the staff and on the keyboard. She doesn’t start teaching from C, which is out of the staff. Instead, she starts with all space notes, continued with the string notes. We have not finished the level 1 yet, but the idea is amazing. I know now why I feel that learning to read the notes is difficult for any other method I have done.
- It comes up with a complete and systematic structure. Each level has a set of lesson (practice) and theory books, altogether with the theory answer book. The good thing is that the concept in the theory book follows the lesson book systematically. The theory book mention exactly which part of the lesson book to follow up.
- The adult series is just right for my son who is a teen. It doesn’t look like too childish in design and delivery. Thus, my son feels confident enough to start learning the piano on his age.
- Short and more independent learning. Using Revolutionary Piano Method, is like doing the Charlotte Masson method. It keeps the lessons short and makes my son want to learn continuously step by step.

RESEARCH SHOWS HOW PIANO PERFORMANCE WITH NOTATION READING GREATLY ENHANCES A STUDENT’S LEARNING ABILITIES, SAT SCORES, ETC. PARENTS DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE MUSICAL TRAINING.
How We Use Revolutionary Piano Method
As I told you previously, my son has just started in level 1. He is a really newbie. He didn’t learn keyboard, but he only can read the percussion partitures. Here are some points we have done to apply the homeschool piano teaching method
- We schedule a time to do 3 short piano lessons weekly:
- Concept or piece introduction or delivery with theory
- Practice time
- Checking and revision
- We are trying hard to be flexible with those parts. Whenever a step needs to be longer or shorter, we just follow the student needs
- We use some colorful markers and pens to decorate both the lesson and the theory books, considering my son is a visual learner as well.
I believe those steps will expand and change along the journey of learning.
Recommendation
To sum up, we are very happy to use Revolutionary Piano Method with our son because it is simple and unique. It really fits our homeschool piano teaching method. Thus, we don’t have any hesitation to recommend it for anyone who wants to start learning the piano, or feel struggled with the recent piano course you are using now. It is wonderful on the basics to teach students in both playing and reading the notes.
