I have learnt a lot of thinks about planning homeschool recently, but I think I need to learn more and put them into real life. I didn’t realise how important planning in life before as I never plan in detail for everything. I thought that everything will go on by itself. Once I heard that it is better to plan something but it doesn’t work as the plan rather than none. I learn a lot from a lot of homeschoolers about their similarity and differences in planning system and think which one of them and the combination that will work for us. What I learn from many homeschoolers are their ability to handle many children in the family is their planning and the way they put it in real life. It is very incredible to know. Then, I just started planning.
The most important thing about planning is that it is a tool for us to achieve our goal. Homeschool planning also has the same purpose.
The first time I started my planning, I think thoroughly about what result I desire toward my kids’ life and faith, my homeschool, my family. Then it becomes the goal. The main goal of our homeschooling is to live as what God wants us to live. Therefore, we always bring the goal in every aspect of learning and life. That is in a very broad range, isn’t it?
Well, next I break down the goal into the subjects needed to include to achieve the main goal and specify it into narrower goals by learning through the subjects we choose. Of course I don’t leave the country requirements to make sure that kids can catch up with the national final exam later if it is needed.
After that, I make a subject planner which include step by step of lessons in the subject we choose. I took the forms from DonnaYoung and the Homeschool Sanity from Sherry Hayes.
The next thing I took an idea of workbox system by Sue Patrick. I haven’t finished preparing the laminated strips and grids, but I am very happy to get the 8 boxes in racks for the three boys and one niece. I will post more about this workbox system once it settles.
