Ken has just finished his geometry chapter which deals with volume, surface area and areas of triangles, paralellogram, trapezium, rombhus, etc. Ken also learns using compasses to make circle patterns. He is just introduced into types of triangles: isosceles and equilaterals. It takes time to get him used to operating compasses. I really like the way he calculated surface area using long equations. He just could get the mathematic sentences strict with parentheses and operation.
Tom has changed his Math Mammoth book into 5A level. We started from 1B two years ago. Now he is doing a lot of mental arithmatics. I was worried that he would struggle with it as he has a maths phobia. It seems nothing to worry about. he just could do double digits multiplication with guidance.
Jim is doing addition and substraction 1-20. He just got awareness of multiplication operation, so I just started multiplication of 2 with him and he loves it a lot. I was so surprised that he could count how much money do you pay for 3 ice cream cost rp. 4,000 each. He just explained it that he needed to add 4000 for three times. I just thought that it was the time to teach multiplication.
This month we have just finished our human reproductive system. Ken and Tom participated in whole lessons, but Jim just did some of it. Kids become more mature. Here are our postings related to this topic:

Next we are doing some material science which is guided by standard text book and modified.
Both Ken and Tom has finished their chapter 3. Tom has been focused on the interview questions. He decided to interview his drum tutor. Ken has written some short dialogue and more written narration on famous people biography.
Both of them has just worked on folk story reading comprehension. Next, I will try to get them memorize some Indonesian idioms.
Jim starts being introduced into punctuation mark intonation.
English Language Arts
Tom has finished The Great Expectation very well. He could retell the story with some help. Now he is doing a chapter of ESL reading unit 2 of Thoughts & Notions, Second Edition (Reading & Vocabulary Development 2). He just started it yesterday. I just want to see how he could do an ESL material. Tom is still in adaptation answering ESL questions. Ken just finished his The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn. Now he is doing some chapter books from Reading Eggs . One day he reads 2 chapters while I get him define the meaning of some words using some guessing techniques. Then he writes some sentences using that words.
Jim is doing some ESL topic in Months and Days.
Both Ken and Tom has just finished writing from character’s point of view and descriptive writing in Writing Strands 3. They are starting organising their writing. I am amazed that Tom can evaluate his own writing by doing self assessment. They know what good sentences are. They know that sentences have to have both subject and verbs.
This month Ken and Tom learn -ing form and to infinitives, countable and uncountable nouns. They are doing it almost independently.
This month spelling focus on the use of apostrophe to show possessions.
Our focus this month is African countries. They explore the geographical areas, some countries on details, animals, and cultural things.
This month we discuss Ancient India. It included the biography of Siddharta Gautama, Castes system, and The Aryan.
Ken is learning about the general election while Tom is still finishing his provincial and central government.
