I am very inspired by the post of my buddy, Jill Wilson in Called to be a Mom about living in a multi generation family. Now I am going to post about how our big family meet up and have photo time together.
Well, first of all, I would like to share our unique family structure. I am the eldest daughter of my parents. Other than me, I still have 2 younger sisters. My husband is the forth son out of five brothers. My youngest sister was married by my husband’s youngest brother. Therefore, both my sister and I have the same parents in law and both my husband and his brother also have the same parents in law. Four of us live in the same address but not in the same building.
My husband and I are blessed with three handsome sons while my sister and his husband have three beautiful daughters. There are a total of six children in our house and it is going to be one more baby boy as my sister is on her seventh month of being pregnant now.
All of the 6 children share similar faces so people often think that I have six children of all. They really look like siblings
Our house is quite crowded. My parents also stay in our house from Sunday to Thursday as my father has got medical practice in our house. We have one cook to serve all people in the house, one laundry helper, and one cleaning helper. We are also very busy in this house as everyone works here, except my husband. Although my husband and his brother work together self employed, my husband has to go to office dealing with all administration things. My sister and I are working together also.
My youngest son is at the same age with my sister’s eldest daughter. Although the girl is one month older than the boy, everyone will think that the boy is the younger brother of the girl because she is much bigger than him (until right now).
We often meet together with all extended family from my side. My husband’s family rarely meet up together. However, we always invite my mother in law anytime we have family event like birthday celebration. My husband family will gather twice in a year, which are my mother in law’s birthday and Chinese New Year.
My mom loves sewing. She sews some uniforms for her grandchildren from time to time as they are growing. Every time we meet together, we always take picture. I rarely meet my younger sister as she lives around 6 hours driving away from our city.
We sometimes have picnic together and we try to wear uniforms. I worked hard collecting those T Shirts, which is a purchase bonus from my MLM company where I have been working. We finally got all sizes and ready to be modified with my mom to suit everyone’s size. It is the Indonesian flag colours. We also use this T Shirt when we were in the airport so that it would be easier to recognise each other.
In her 60th birthday, my mom made another uniform for kids and herself. We went to a forest just to get pictures in various poses and clothes. The forest changed to be our natural photo studio. My cousin was the photographer. It was extremely hard to arrange their poses.
In Chinese New Year, we always meet together in my parents’ house in Malang, which is 2 hours driving from Surabaya before or after meeting up with my husband’s family. This year my parents are going to have 2 more grandchildren as both of my sisters are pregnant right now. They are extremely happy, especially for my younger sister who had not had any children after 8 years marriage.
When I see our picture, I always feel grateful for God’s blessing in accompanying our family. We are growing well together so far. God has taken care of everyone. The grandparents and parents are getting older while the children are growing bigger. Thanks God for everything.
