I can't believe that it has been 5 years we use Reading Eggs as a resource in our reading lesson. It is now a supplement, but it was our main online reading program for homeschool when our older sons were at the middle elementary grade level. Now. it comes to the time when my youngest son is on the same age as my oldest son when he started using Reading Eggspress as a part of Reading Eggs. We are very lucky that we have a chance to write a review about this online reading program for homeschool.
Today, I would like to share our experience in using Reading Eggspress from the Blake eLearning. I received the product for free. I am compensated for my time. All opinions are honest, and I am not required to post a positive review.

Our Problems with The Minimum Access of Reading Resource
It is undeniable that reading skills and habit for many purposes and in any media are very important that everyone should start to nurture. You might have various challenge to build up the skills and habits of your children.
Beside the internal factor, which is the interest and ability of your children, you might have some external challenge like the tools, resources, and time available to support the growth of reading skills, habits, and interest. We do have those problems of reading, especially when kids are still in the kindergarten and the elementary grade levels. We are not English native speakers and we live in Indonesia which is not an English speaking country. However, we use a lot of English learning resources and kids learn English as well as Indonesian.
- It is challenging to get kids in the kindergarten to the middle school levels to read, I would like to confess. They get bored easily with the plain book without pictures. They are more excited to read the picture books and to play the electronic devices.
- Unfortunately, there is only a few access to the picture and good English books in my country. I can say that we are really isolated in terms of English resources. There isn't any good library that provides appropriate English reading for children. In addition, the English reading books are relatively much more expensive compared to the Indonesian books.
- Honestly, I don't have enough time to ALWAYS accompany kids reading books and play the electronic devices. In this case, I need to be really selective in choosing the right online programs. Safety, affordability, accessibility, and content quality, to sum up, are some requirements I expect so that children can learn and enjoy the program independently without reducing the quality and benefits for them.
Reading Eggs – An Online Reading Program for Homeschool
It was over 5 years ago that we got the answer to all of the problems. At that time, my oldest son was still 11, the second son was 10, and the youngest was 6. Now they are 16, 15, and 11. We have been using all of the programs with all of our children, considering our English background which is lower than the native English speakers.
Well, before I share our experience with Reading Eggs, you might wonder what Reading Eggs is. Reading Eggs is an award-winning online reading program for children aged 3-13. It is a safe online learning program that helps children to boost their early literacy skills happily. The Reading Eggs program has over 2,500 e-books, hundreds of reading lessons, and thousands of interactive activities and online reading games.
Reading Eggs has several levels of reading based on the age and also a math program:
- Reading Eggs Junior
Reading Eggs Junior is an online reading program for children aged 2-4. The program has activities, songs, books, and videos that focus on building pre-reading skills.
- Reading Eggs
It is for children aged 4-7. The program is focused on phonics, sight words, and reading skills (literacy)
- Reading Eggspress
Reading Eggspress is for children aged 7-13. With a focus on reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and written language skills, It is like a big brother/sister to Reading Eggs.
Mathseeds is aimed for children aged 3-9. It has structured lessons and activities.
At the moment, my youngest son “play” Reading Eggspress every day, either by himself or with his cousin/brothers as cheerleaders.
How The Mama Thinks about Reading Eggs(press)
I want children to be independent in using any online programs, but I also cannot trust them 100% that they will use the program properly. I am happy that Reading Eggs has a parent dashboard that helps me to control children's learning. I can check their performance and achievements and give follow up based on the report.
Kids need to take the placement test and they will start from the result of the test straight away. Therefore, they will start on their specific and unique level. They will not get either bored or under pressure.
This online reading program for homeschool is also personalized and it is mot intimidating. Kids can learn reading in a fun way based on their path without any worry of being left out from others.
Great Idea for Rewards
Reading Eggs with the other programs included implementation of the reward system that makes kids more enthusiastic. They can collect the eggs by completing the units and based on their achievements. Next, they can redeem the eggs for the avatars.
The Use of Games
As I mentioned previously, kids really love games. They said that Reading Eggs sounds more about playing games. In fact, I observe their significant progress. It means that they enjoy this online reading program for homeschool a lot.
The Trial Program
I was not sure and didn't trust Reading Eggs the first time I knew about it. I thought it was just the same as other reading programs. It was great that Reading Eggs gives trial program so I was confirmed to use this program.
The Various Collection in the Library
Reading Eggs has over 2500 reading material (both fiction and nonfiction books), complete with the comprehension questions that really solve our reading problem as I mentioned previously. I won't be able to afford to search manually and to purchase that many readings by myself. I am really grateful for this feature.
The Span of Reading Levels
A subscription to Reading Eggs will include Reading Eggs Junior, Reading Eggs, and Reading Eggspress. They suit both the reading interest and skill to kids that ages generally. It gives children more freedom and flexibility in learning. They also love the contents.
