Teaching religion for a non religious teacher is a challenging experience. That is what happens to me. One of the strongest reasons to homeschool my kids are to get them closer to God in their life so they have moral and principal like Jesus Christ. Besides, as Catholic parents who have get the children baptized when they were babies, it is our responsibility to educate them in Catholic way, based on the bible and tradition. However, I rarely read The Bible in my daily life outside church. Although we go to church every Sunday, I seldom think about the Catholic tradition and the saints.
The first time we started learning at home, we ignored the importance of having special time for nurturing our faith. We just prayed together at night, pray individually before meals, go to church regularly on Sunday, and sometimes pray before lesson. It was a nightmare for me and the kids to get organised and to do the lesson as it was planned. It is true what was said by Ms. Kimberly Hahn that if we want to fail in homeschool, just ignore the religious things. This message is very important for us and for any homeschoolers. We might think that reading bible, have longer time to pray and do religious routine will reduce our learning time. In fact, it really increase our energy and enlighting our mind. By praying, we hand our agenda in the hands of GOD. Our mind is opened by reading bible.
In the morning we spend 20 minutes everyday to read bible, doing copywork, read about and pray with the saint of the day. Children are very happy with this new habbit. It helps us to get close with God. We ask His Bless for us during our work and play. We believe that we can homeschool because of the bless from God. We would never do it without any involvement of God.
