Workbox System is a systematic consecutively arranged step of working based on the idea of Sue Patrick. I never bought her products or buy her book actually. I do really want to. I just do some research and browsing around this system. It looked very well organised. I thought that I needed this system as I am working with three different levels which demand dependence of learning.
There are a lot of variations of workbox system application. They are adjusted based on the availability and the need of the family. Basically, it is a matter of systematical learning organization
1. First of all, each child has his or her own box(es) Or other container like folder and basket. Each part of the container or the box (es) has certain activity needs to be done with label or number or token.
2. The child usually finishes those boxes in certain sequence. When he or she has finished each task, he or she needs to show his or her achievement by sticking or pasting the label or number or token on certain place displayed so mom can check them out.
3. After checking the finished works, we have to unload the boxes and change the materials regularly based on the planning.
It was very lucky that we can get some discount in Ace Hardware for the drawers. I bought three of them. Each set of the drawers has eight boxes. Next, I made labels for those three sets of drawers, the number, the time, and the place on a card stock and laminate them so they won't get broken easily and they can be stuck put off using tack (usually called blue tack, but it isn't blue). I put the number labels on the left side of the drawers and the time ones on the right. When the activity needs to be completed in certain place, there is place label next to the time.
The most important part is planning. In this case, I use my weekly planning and classify the subjects and activities of the days into 8 parts. Because I have 3 different levels as mentioned previously, I swap and be flexible with the sequence. There are some parts in each child schedule and topic demanding mom's help. Therefore, using the workbox system makes me able to arrange my attention based on the need of each child. There are also some group time such as reading bible and listening to the saint story. I copied the modified weekly planning two times. One copy is stuck on the individual table and the other one is kept for my document and control.
Then, the workbox components are ready to use. It is very easy when we have planned.
